The Coffin Texts are a collection of ancient Kemetic funerary spells written on coffins beginning around 2100 BCE. The full collection is a compilation of 1,185 spells, mostly inscribed on Middle Kingdom coffins, tombs, walls, stelae, canopic chests, papyri and masks. They are partially derived from the earlier Pyramid Texts, (reserved for royal use only), but also contain material related to everyday desires, and interests of the common person. 

 

This volume presents of spells 788 - 1183 of Faulkner's authoritative English translation of the Middle Kingdom Coffin Texts. Faulkner's version include minimal concise textual notes, which allow the character of the texts to be experienced as a whole. The indexes cover divinities, localities, celestial bodies, selected Egyptian words in translation and also the parts of boats and sailing gear that figure prominently in some spells
